Looking into getting an electric razor. I'm getting tired of the whole shaving cream / razor routine and need something quicker and easier. My wife suggest me to go with this Philips razor. What ya think? Am I on the right track? Anyone have any other recommnedations? What are using and are you happy with it?

Kidding aside, I bought one many years ago thinking it would be quick and easy. Remington's best at the time. Took three times as long and nowhere near as good a shave as a DE or a Schick injector of the time. Unless they've improved the technolodgy don't waste your money.
This would be about the last place you'd want to ask for advice on an electric.

My dad was a confirmed electric razor shaver and I tried them several times. However I just couldn't accept the results. The last time was about two years ago with what I thought was a quality Braun razor. Before that I had a couple of Norelcos and I think a Remington. My dad didn't like Remington, but liked Sunbeam and later Braun. After an initial spike the shaves deteriorated after about a week. A thorough cleaning produced minimal improvement. A year later I replaced the entire head and once again, good shaves for a week, then couldn't buy a good shave. For the first 40 years I flip flopped between electric razors and disposables/cartridges and more or less swapped irritations.Quote:

Please understand that I'm not trying to be rude in the least, but I am curious why someone looking for an electric razor would join the original wetshaving forum named "Straight Razor Place" with questions about electrics.
There is an electric shavers forum out there (Electricshaverforums.com), and I'm guessing they would have a better answer than we would here. Unfortunately, I can't see any of the pages, though because I'm not a member there.
Welcome to SRP, though, and should you have wetshaving related questions, I know I can be much more helpful under those circumstances. :)
I am not sure where you are coming from.:confused: But I have tried several electrics and have NOT been happy. Steel blades have been my choice for 30+ years. I am new to straight razors, and I have a lot to learn. Try an old safety razor is straight blades are not right for you.
I used to have a Braun and between having hairs pulled by it instead of cut and being hassled in the afternoon about not shaving that day at work (bad 5 o'clock shadow) I wound up throwing it away.
I love the results that I get from a straight and a DE. No problems with the 5 o'clock shadow like with the electric.
in the barber shop we use the wahl five star and the andis profoil.. they both seem to work about as well as a foil shaver can but I will say they are much louder than almost all of my straights

I admit... I have a Braun Cruzer for about a year of 3.
I have used it for about +/- 10 times...
I bought it because I was tired of the long time wet shaving took (mach3).
I can tell you that the electric shave time was at least the same (and even longer!!)
I also tried the Philishave... even worse!
For me: only wet shaving!
and since a month -> please let it be with a straight razor!!
It helps to relax, and also that is an important thing...

If your really looking for a answer for an electric shaver at a str8 shaviing site. Did it ever cross your mind that we are here because we have tried all the other methods and selected str8 because its the best. I too have tried all the other methods of shaving and electric has to be the worst!!!!!!! Bad, crappy shave, skin burn and if you think there's no maintaince your wrong the blades, foils where out pretty quick. At least with a str8 you can hone it and be back in the game in no time at all. But this is just my experiance with electric. As for you with due respect, GOOD LUCK.
the most important thing about using an electric is to use light pressure, watch your angle and strop properely. Oh and YMMV.

Whipping up a lather with a good brush, soap and/or cream, and shaving with a quality DE or straight razor made shaving something most of us look forward to rather than dread. If you haven't already given it a try do so. Once the learning curve is behind you you'll be glad you did.

But I, too, sometimes simply cannot take the time for a str8 shave, as my day is very fluid. I use a DE, which takes me 10 min or less for a DFS including making the lather, etc. You can pick up a superspeed for next to nothing.
And, if I really really have to go fast, or if I am travelling, I will resort to a Mach 3. But never with canned lather.....ughh. I just make some on my face and go fast when I have to
