    Default Antique Store Find

So I went to a local antique store and found this little gem today.

J.R. Torrey. Not much rust except on the tang, right between the scales where it's hard to get off. The scales are in decent shape except for where someone scratched a letter a long time ago (I couldn't figure out how to get a good shot of that tonight without my wife finding out what I bought, I might try tomorrow). It even came with a box (albeit beat the heck up)

It centers pretty well in the scales. Sometime in the next night or two I'll have to get my sandpaper out and start trying to not butcher the blade in the process. I'm even thinking I might get adventurous and try to rescale it.

Have any of you guys ever used the Testors sanding film? I've got some sitting around from another project and was thinking it might be a bit better than standard sandpaper.

I have a Torrey that looks alot like that.
Haven't restored it yet, but she's near the top of the list.

Those scales look to be in great shape.
You may want to just take it apart and clean them up real good, polish them, and sand the blade real well.
It's a great way to get started in the sickness that is rescaling.

The wiki is addicting. It looks like this may turn in to quite the project...
A buddy of mine is making some micarta out of some WWII cots scraps... I might have to see if I can get some from him...
