    Default Paying it forward

    Hey Guys

So I went into my local pharmacy today. I asked the pharmacist if he had Alum. He checked to see if he could order it and we started talking about straight razor shaving. Apparently, this gentlemen ordered a very nice Dovo years ago, but it was the factory edge and it only caused pain and frustration. So it sat in a drawer lonely and cold. He asked where I get my razors sharpened...I've been honing some of my own razors and my skills are improving. I'm able to get a very comfortable edge. I will be putting his Dovo through the hones for him. I also decided I'm going to lone him one of my shave ready razors to use until I get his ready to go.

It's the least I can do considering all that you guys have done for me. You guys have been so kind and informative. This is truly the nicest group of people I've ever encountered in an internet community. I directed him to this site and hopefully another will be preserving our cherished lost art.

yes thats really quite nice of you, and i dont know how to quite say this but hmm "proper". in that as we all know learning to use these things is much much easier with help.

glad to hear you hold this sentiment. cheers.

p.s. funny enough years ago my first razor was a twisted dovo, that i spent ages trying to get shaving, ripped my face right off. so i have good empathy for your story in a sort of, you know, fellow sufferer way .ha

Good For You! A job well done! I'm just learning how to hone, Glen has been so helpful! He'll be working on my Great Grandfathers Wade and Butcher Wedge Restoration (It's in his shop just waiting it's turn!)

I hope that the pharmacists appreciates your efforts!

I feel that imparting knowledge and help freely is a good attitude to have, good for you. After all I've learned most of my stuff to date from the good folk here.
I to feel I do a good hone job these days after much practice and would be glad to hone anyones razor if they would like to pm me, I quite enjoy doing it also.
For that matter anything I can help with just ask and I will if I can do my best.

no no, only for as long as it takes him to run the Dovo through the hones

    Nah, nobody is that conniving

Paying forward is pretty commonplace on SRP, even if you don't read or hear about it all the time. kudos
Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

[QUOTE=Deckard;722808]I feel that imparting knowledge and help freely is a good attitude to have, good for you.I second that way of thinking.I can never figure out why it always has to be this something for something mentality.I don't expect to be paid something for imparting knowledge if it's gonna make things better for someone or something. In most cases anyway as there are exceptions,I won't lie.
