So what is the razor that you decided was so good it probably won't get any better?
For me it was a puma that just totally wrecked my RAD. Smoothest shave ever and absolutely no razor burn. IME puma plus japanese hone = straight razor nirvana.

there is always puma rad lol it never ends !
Ha - ha - ha - ha - ha - ha - ha - ha !! If one razor, any razor, kills your RAD; then brother you never had RAD in the first place. RAD isn't curable by any other means except abject poverty and/or death.
:chop:

For me it was a Henckels Friodur 7/8" round point. It is now my daily shaver, and inspired me to buy more Friodurs of varying sizes. I now own four in three sizes and two shapes of various vintages. My only obsessive thought here is whether or not to have them prettied up and rescaled... I love these more than my Dorko, Filarmonica, Revisors, etc. I even shaved for quite a while with a Feather Japanese style, went back to the Friodur for "just one shave" and put the Feather away.
The Heirloom strop company cured me of Strop Acquisition Disorder before it started really... I have two of those. I knew I'd found canvas and latigo nirvana with them.
I have one badger brush for daily use and a travel model for... well... travel. No BAD here.
Bart Torfs at Coticule.be cured me of any desire for other hones, and the last coticule I bought (it was a hand picked one from him) cured me of the need for more coticules.
Soaps, creams, aftershaves, witch hazels... that's another story. ;)
I ain't found mine yet :boohoo: but I'm still looking. ;)
I think I'll be banned from the RAD club. :o
My rotation now consists of 2 kamisori (an Iwasaki & a Kobayashi). They just do it all for me.
I have sold all bar about 3 of my western straights & they will likely go when I get around to it. Yes I even sold my Puma
I can't imagine such a razor exists. Every time I find a new and wonderful shave, that's better than any I've tried before; it has the opposite effect.
Instead of thinking, "it can't get any better than this," I think, "If this one is this much better, I wonder how good that one is......"
I've got 100+ straights that includes 14 or 15 customs, Filarmonica's, Dubl Ducks, Mappins, Wade and Butchers, Wostenholms, Pumas, Henckels, Joseph Rogers, Klas Tornblums etc etc. I've got horn scales, ivory scales, wooden scales, plastic scales and even mammoth ivory scales. I've got wedges, half hollows, full hollows and framebacks. I've got multiple pairs and 7 day sets. I've got Damascus steel, carbon steel and stainless steel. I've even got stainless Damascus.
Nothing has cured my RAD.
The elusive Chronik may stop my RAD.
Wacker...It is an awesome shave..
RAD ???? What exactly is that ????
Personally, I NEED all these razors....
My ivory grelot put that addiction in the gave
Boker.......all of them! Or was it the Wade & Butchers? Nah! The DD. Nope! It was the John Williams Damascus. No! No! No! The Wostys! Yea, that's it. Wait a minute, maybe the Joseph Rodgers. Shot! I just can't remember which one........
the only razor that can kill rad is the razor that kills you
I just need one more and my RAD will be gone! :rofl2:
I've yet to find that razor...when I do I'll definately let you know...lol
I never had it in the first place, although it may have just been killed off before it had a chance to develop when I got my Wilkinson Sword.
Okeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey... so I guess I have been hanging out... with a real sick crowd... hope this RAD thing isn't contagious cause damn... I have been thinking about a wacker... DAMN YOU PEOPLE!!! this was about re confirming that RAD isn't permanent!!! and you RADDIES have done just the opposite! my CC is quivering now.
I doubt that any one razor can kill RAD completely. I have about 3 that put an end to most of my desires to buy any more. I just like shaving, not much on collecting. I have a B&B LeGrelot 1/4 grind that has just never been topped, equaled, but not topped for quality of shave and ease of honing. I also have a TI, C135 french point that is a very fine razor but the one that did more than any other to just kinda made me realize that enough is enough, is this Robert Williams that I have...... I still love her but sometimes I think she is toying with me!:rofl2:
Attachment 57765
It is almost 7/8, 1/4 grind, with giraffe bone scales and has just enough weight to show some authority without being obnoxious. I use it on the weekends when I have time to really enjoy the way it cuts a line. It is just an exceptional razor both in looks and the way that it shaves.
Take Care,
Richard
For me it was a Naniwa Chosera 10K hone
and a Naniwa 12K hone.
I think I could hone a razor edge on an Idaho potato with them.
They absolutely improved all the razors in my collection.
OH wait I just got a W&B in the mail today. <blush> my RAD is back.
Enjoying what you have is the most logical solution and the most boring.
Just because my str8 collection keeps growing doesn't mean anything. I can quit at any time. I'm in complete control. It's only for recreation use, I swear. I don't have RAD, what are you talking about.
Nope, nothing kills the RAD! :D
Nothing kills the HAD either...
As soon as I get something that makes me go "WOW" it just kick starts the chase to find something better...!
Two 1/4 grind Grelots from Martin in a lovely TI shaving box should have cured me. But I've bought about 50 since then.
That is one heck of a nice looking razor CJ. How does it shave, hone and strop? Is the blade really thin at the edge?
Take Care,
Richard
These are nice....
http://www.revisor-solingen.de/asset...ages/db_27.jpg
And it's available for only 118.00 Euros. Well within a decent price range. 6/8 carbon steel, 1/1 Full Hollow shoulderless.
link: 6/8
Go to the link and if you hit the UP arrow you will get a whole page FULL of nice 6/8 Revisors. Then there are the 5/8 and 8/8 as well.
Agree with some of the previous posters, as long as you remain inclined towards the acquisition of razors there is no cure for RAD...even the Grim Reaper might have a hard time stopping it and who is to say he doesn't have RAD?
I'm afraid no one razor can cure that.
Too many different blades out there, I've yet to try the majority of them.
Nope, the first 100 did not satisfy any RAD:)
All those have done is make me more picky, but by no means cure it
Surely it has to be a custom of some sort, 'cause we all know that if you spend $1000 on a single razor you will never want another again? Right? Guys, back me up here and tell me it's true, please........
It's true, I've seen a few of Birnandos customs at the London razorcon last year. all it did is fuel my RAD and get him talking about the next one! :D
