They're Here! *Pics*
First off: Here they are as I pulled them from the box today. I did nothing but open them up...I didn't even think to wipe the blades.
So when I mentioned to my grandmother that I was venturing into straight shaving she asked if I wanted a razor. She had a razor in the dresser that was my grandfather's grandfather's razor. My Great Great Grandfather passed it on to my Great Grandfather who taught my Grandfather to shave with it, but my Grandfather shaved with DE's his adult life. He got the razor when his dad passed away because it had been his grandfather's and he had learned to shave with it. No one is certain about the box I got it in except that it has always been stored in that box for as long as my grandmother can remember. Maybe my great grandfather made it? Maybe his dad made it? I don't know. Surely it didn't come that way...did it? I'd love to know how old this razor is. To a noob it feels incredibly sharp, far more so than it's shipping mate.
Speaking of which. After my conversation with my Dad's mom, I told my dad the story. Before I could get it all out he said "Do you want a razor?" Uh, yeah. Turns out that when my great aunt died there was a box in her house labeled with Great Grandpa's name. Among the momentos inside were some straight razors. No one else wanted them, so dad tucked two away. He sent me this one from that collection.
I'd love to know how old this razor is too. And don't ask, I'm not selling them.I hope to use them, though I'll refrain from doing so (at least very much) until I'm confident I won't screw them up (chip/break etc.). Still, they've both got very straight blades. There's some corrosion on the Crown and Sword, but it's very light surface stuff. Both are tight at the pivot with NO corrosion around the pivot. They both appear to be full hollows but I'm not entirely sure...making my statement based of the info in the wiki here.
Whether they're really all that old or not I'm very excited to have them.
*Note: I had intentions of inserting the pictures throughout the post, but now it looks like it isn't going to let me do that. If I can figure it out, I will edit it to make it work. If not you'll just have to look at the pics however they turn out.
