Thread: Why does this happen?

I've been looking on ebay for old razors to provide donor scales for re-scaling projects.

Been putting bids on razors with cracked/chipped blades or blades that have massive honewear and I've been getting outbid. Not only that but most of time there are multiple bidders. Yet I see good razors with good scales getting passed in all the time.

Maybe there's more money in restoring than sales at this time. That or they are collecting the scales, which is not uncommon.

That and they just collect the scales for their beauty. Some people collect straight razors just for collecting and the blade condition doesn't matter much because they don't shave with them.

Also it's the innate evil of pretty scaled razors. They cast a spell on the bayers, in particular when you really, really want them, and makes them bid without reason nor measure.

It could, as an alternative theory, that you have impeccable taste and the scales that catch your eye are also in demand by collectors or fellow razor enthusiasts. This is genetic, and you and I are probably related... No matter what I'm shopping for, whatever catches my eye is invariably the most expensive item in the class.

I don't think we're related, but it sounds as though our mothers had the same milkman.

There's a limit to how much I'll bid for a razor as a re-scale donor yet it drives me out of my mind when other people bid on MY razors.
