Ontario Cutlery

I bought this razor just because it was in mint condition. Never heard of Ontario Cutlery but living in Ontario and it being mint meant I picked it up. So little research later I find out that Ontario Cutlery is a NY based business no big loss, but I seem to see reference to them being tied to Geneva Cutlery AKA Genco. Is this the case?

Another question, would they have used wood on the scale or just made the plastic look like wood

Yup i believe your right. Ontario Cutlery is a Genco.

Considering Ontario NY and Geneva NY are about 1o miles from each other who knows the real story

I bought one - paid too much because I thought it looked so good and I knew they were good shavers. When I got it cleaned up, the pitting was so bad it was impossible to have a clean bevel. If you ground one nick (actually a void left from the pitting) out, it introduced another. 'Very sad. I think they're handsome, and the surprise was that nicks an all, it still shaves beautifully. 'Takes edges like the best soligens I've tried. I hope you enjoy it alot.

The Ontario Cutlery question...

I visited with the folks at the Ontario Knife Company a couple of weeks ago. They display cutlery during the Franklinville Maple Festival.

My first question was about NOS straights they might have lying about. They all laughed. I wondered if they might consider producing an anniversary straight. They think it's too small a niche market. They have a 1000 piece minimum for new production.

I then asked about the Ontario Cutlery / Geneva Cutlery connection. They say there is none. Ontario Cutlery = Ontario Knife Co . The company has been in business for 120 years. First in Naples, NY then in Geneva, NY then in Cadiz, NY and now in Franklinville, NY.

Awesome folks. Great products too. I bought a RAT knife and a bunch of sweet Old Hickory knives.

Western New York was actually a hotbed of quality cutlery manufacturing. Geneva,(Genco, Ontario), Ellicottville,(one example= CMon) Little Valley, (Cattaraugus Cutlery), Olean,(Union Cutlery and more), Perry (where Robesons were actually produced) and many others. The Case family left Little Valley for Bradford PA, and brought forth Case. It's hard for me to conceive of a more productive area for cutlery in this country at that time. Some areas of Massachusetts, maybe, but new Yorkers really cranked them out, and these were really small town operations.
