Thread: Filharmonica Sub Cero

I know this has been asked before and it dosent belong to me nor am I bidding on it BUT- are the Filly Sub Cero the Ne Plus Ultra of straights? There is one on the bay for $1200. can anything that was semi mass produced reayyl be so good as to merit that kind of pricing,or is someone just trolling and trying to get lucky? It is the best looking one that I have seen there but maybe if it were a custom made highly decorated razor you could say that the time and work made it worth a priemium....but thats a lot of wood for a razor,I dont own one but I have a few that are reconized name brands that were professionally honed and there great,but can anything be that much better?

P.S. I know its in the eye of the beholder but really is there anything that special about it?

Grizzley, you're likely to get the usual responses to this type of question: "It's worth as much as you're willing to pay for it", or another favorite, "it's no different than paying big $$$ in any other hobby"....

It's pretty much BS to be honest. It's no more than a case of a greedy swine who throws out an outrageous price, hoping to cash in on a fool with too much disposable income riding high on the Straight Train. And he will likely find such a fool, too.

And no, this overpriced beauty is not some magical razor blessed by the gods. At the end of the day $40 razor will do the same thing as a $1200 razor, as in shave you.

P.S. I just got a great idea,since its in Japan It would be a blast to make a $1200 dollar bill and pay for it with that. Dont think the secret service would think so though

Do you happen to have a link for the Fili, I feel the need to lay eyes on this razor the seller thinks is worth so much. And no, I'm not a potential buyer, especially after the comments I made above!

In guessing its the same seller that keeps putting razors up at ridiculous prices.

Don't forget guys that there are collectors out there, people who value razors from entirely different qualities than shaving ability. It's an expensive razor, and you might expect brilliant shaves from it - but the price may be driven by low production numbers or something. The description says: "CONDITION : Relatively good condition-very tiny rust on the surface only." and "It should be sharpened before use."
Among the sellers other items I also spotted a $25 razor. Perhaps this Sub Cero is the holy grail for collectors of spanish razors or something. Just a thought.

your probablbly right-This razor was made from the armor that Cortez wore while concering the Incas!

Cortez was in Mexico and the Incas were in Peru, you are thinking about Pizarro (the spanish who was in Peru) or about the Aztec empire, conquered by Cortez.

I have seen a pic of this razor, it's a bit ancient, the original owner showing his straights....
