I just finished this shelf yesterday to hold and display my razors in the bathroom. The one in the middle was my dad's and I put new scales on it but they are a little wide to fit the slot I cut. But all in all I am please with it. It is made out of mahogany. Attachment 71396Attachment 71397
I like the shelf, I am looking for something to hold my razors. Good Idea.
Nice looking shelf. I'm using a toothbrush stand from Target that holds 3 but don't look nearly that cool.
Nice work! Much snazzier than the test-tube stands I use.
Nice but beware the steam/humidity of the Bathroom!!!!!!! Especially elevated like that.
I worry about moisture getting on the blades in the bathroom.I keep mine in the bedroom.The shelf looks great.

That looks great, the design reminds me of a pipe rack...
...which gives me an idea: these guys make custom pipe racks, I bet they could be commissioned to make something for razors, say with a little drawer for touch-up hones beneath. :)

Well after thinking through it after finishing it I think I will make all the slots larger in the next one as well as maybe a drawer or a shelf under to put some essentials in. Don't really have an issue with steam and moisture really in my bathroom, great ventilation. But I will definitely keep an eye on them. Thanks for the kind words guys.

Well has not been a earthquake here in a 100 or so years. But come to think of it odds are probably better to have one than not.
very nice rack, a drawer would be cool on the next on. I need a rack for my razors, I also need some wood working skills.

As I read these threads, it never really came to mind, but where do most people keep their razors? Bedroom? I keep min in the bathroom, and I've never known an issue
All the 'out of rotation' ones are oiled and stored in my wardrobe in the bedroom. The CT that is in rotation and my DE (permanantly) reside in the bathroom cabinet. We have extraction fans in the bathroom, so humidity and steam are minimised.Quote:

Guys I am tickled that you like it enough that you would use the design. The one thing I will change on the next one that you might want to think about. For the upper support drill a series of 1/2" holes down the center of the piece then rip it or cut down the middle then you will not have the problem I did if one of the razors is a little wider than the others. Good luck lets see the pics of what you build.
Just my paranoid preference, but the razors I use are only in the bathroom during the time I'm actually using them. After that they are cleaned and stored away from the bathroom.
You know I am fairly new to the straight razor family but I have been making and storing knives for as long as I can remember and I have never had a problem with one rusting if it is kept clean and dry. Now I may regret this statement after a while but so far I have not had a problem. Now I am also pretty good about keeping an eye on my hunting knives especially the carbon steel blades, I polish them with mothers occasionally and they are all fine. Like I said before I have great ventilation in my bathroom never even had the mirror fog up so I will take my chances. Now their is no way I would store them in my daughters bathroom as the mirror drips with moisture after she showers.
I like it a lot I may need to copy it myself. Although mine will have to be in the bedroom away from humidity and little hands.
