    Default Carrington & Co

    HI,
Can anyone tell me about Carrington & Co ? I got one from an antique store pretty cheap but can not find any information on it. I know it is Sheffield steel. Any idea of when it was made? Anyone know? Help appreciated!

    Thanks

Carrington & Co. were in business from about 1920 to 1940 according to Goins' Encyclopedia.

Formerly known as JBC (James Bodman Carrington), the JBC mark was registered in 1880 and 1882 as that of a Sheffield maker of silverware, etc. James Carrington retired in 1906 and his sons took over the firm, renaming it Carrington & Co. The company also incorporated G Collis & Co (Birmingham, registered 1836) and S Smith & Co (Birmingham, registered 1900) and used the London showrooms of G Collis & Co, situated at 130 Regent Street. These companies specialised in gold and silverware, gold and silver plate, dinner services, medals, trophy cups, candelabra, etc - not razors - so the razor was probably manufactured for them and they were agents for it.

PS: My copy of Goins has almost as many corrections in it as it has entries!

    Regards,
    Neil
