I agree with gugi. At the time the razor was made, Europe was importing 100s of tons of elephant tusk yearly. Ivory and slaves were the two major exports from Africa. I'll test the scales once the razor arrives this week, but I'm assuming it's elephant.
Btw, Bassguy, thanks for the warning. The blade will be treated with respect.

Lovely blade. The CVHs are perhaps the most elegant 19th century str8s out there. So understated. There's nothing like real ivory to compliment that outrageously modern steel.
