Is it a safety razor? Take it out of the case and take some pics then we might be able to help you out!

What you have can best be described as a section of straight razor on a stick. The stick (handle) is detachable. To hone and strop, the blade is attached to a pivoting carrier in the case.

Is is worth $5? A lot wil depend on whether all the parts are there, the hone and strop are in good condition, and the internal mechanism is in working order.

Shaving with it is very similar to using a DE safety razor.

Do a Google search on Rolls Razor and you'll get plenty of hits.

Open that baby up and take some pictures -- be careful, one of the quickest ways to turn it into junk is to crack the thin hone that's built into one the lids. If you decide to put it back together -- be careful again, trying to push the hone lid into place is another way to crack the hone --

A Rolls razor in good sharp condition can be a terrific shaver. A dull one with a worn-out strop and a cracked stone is just shiny junk. Give us a look inside.

It's a rolls razor. It's like a segment of a straight blade on the end of a stick. I've actually never actually gotten around to using mine. If you search Youtube, there's a video or two of people using them.
