Thanked: 2H.K. special razor
Hi All,
I got this old razor at the antique store. It is marked " the H.K. co. Special" and 47'11 between two crowns etched on the blade. The scales are nice yellow celluloid ivory imitation.
Does anyone have any info about those razors? I tried to search for it on the net but no luck.
Here is a link to some pics:

Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers,
Rafal

Do you think it's worth restoring?

There was an H.K. Co. Kane Pa. c 1916-1930 listed in Goins'. It was a marking used by the Hollingsworth Knife Company. Hope this helps.

Can't tell you what it is but my barber has one and says it's one of his best shavers.
Sorry I'm not any help here.

Thanked: 2I mean, It makes sense that H.K. co. stands for Hollingsworth Knife company. It is very encouraging that such a razor can be a good shaver. I think I'll restore it. Is there a way to clean.polish the blade and maintain the etching?

There is one more possibility, it could be a Henry Keidel & co.

It's all a matter of how much polishing you need or want to do. The etching isn't deep so if you polish to a point you will remove it. You could mask off the area of the etching but then that area will stick out like a sore thumb. If it's a good shaver don't experiment with it. Either use it as is with honing or send it out to a pro.

K. H. Co.
Let's try this again. Your razor is made by the K.H. Co. and not the H.K. Co. Maybe you had a temporary flash of dyslexia or, like most of us, got your fingers tangled up on the keyboard. Still I couldn't find any info for the K.H. Special either. Maybe some additional clues can be found in the writing on the razor case and any other info that might be stamped on the reverse side of the tang.
