Thanked: 1Yard Sale Finds.
Hello, I'm new here and was hoping for more information
I found all of these at a yard sale, the guy told me they were used by soldiers during the civil war. I'm fascinated by the civil war, as well as style, razors, et cetera.
The first one says - Pyramide Gottlieb Hammesfahr 35
2 - J. R. Torrey Co US Worcester MASS on the blade it says Swedish Razor
3 - Non Xll Joseph Allen & Sons Sheffield, England on the blade Medium Size Hollow Ground
4- KRUSIUS Brothers Germany KB EXTRA 30

First off welcome, I have one Torrey and it is one of my best shavers, they are good shavers. I don't think I've tried any of the other brands you have so I can't comment on those, others i'm sure will have lots of knowledge on them

Thanked: 1Thanks. Unfortunately the Torrey has a nick on the end of the blade.
My favorite is the Joseph Allen & Sons.

Great job finding those in the wild! Unfortunately they will need some work before they can be used. Also, the seller was not informed on some of the razors, at the least #2 and #3 were manufactured after 1890. Stamps before this did not include the country of origin, mostly the city. But you have some good candidates there for shaving.

FA, to your original question of how much does it cost - no one can answer that. Its like calling a mechanic and saying my car is making this noise and asking how much to fix. Until you get eyes and hands on the razor, you don't know. If I would be correct in guessing you're new to straight shaving, I'd repeat the usually ignored counsel to avoid fleabay, antique stores and garage sale blades like the plague for at least the first 6 mo. Get a professionally honed razor (doesn't have to be expensive), learn the shave. Next, learn to hone (not on fleabay finds). When you can reliably get a pleasing edge - you're ready to learn some of the cleanup/resto work - and won't need to ask this question. One two dollar fleabay blade + $50+ in resto fees, and you're saved nothing over buying a shave ready razor from someone who uses one daily.

Hey everyone,
This is my second post. It wasn't a flea market find but a Kijiji find here in the Maritime Provinces (Canada). Saw a listing for 3 straights. They looked be in alright condition and I was in the market for a few older razors to practice my honing and stropping. Called the guy and set up a visit. Turned out to be a King Cutter, edelweiss and a Geo Wolsterholme Conqueror (sorry if spelling is off). All three were clean with maybe only a bit of cosmetic tarnish. Bevels looked good and consistent with no chips. Two of them took the hair of the inside of my forearm like nothing at all I'm hoping they will all clean up and shave very nice. $40 for the lot.
I know we're not supposed to talk about value (I'm hoping saying what I paid for them is alright... I'll edit out if not)
Thanks for your time and I can't wait to become a member of this great online community.
Cheers,
Pàdraig

Here's my Joseph Allen that I re-scaled in bamboo last week. Cheers!
