Thanked: 0Help in Dating These Straight Razors
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could help in dating these pair of straight razors. I don't have much to go on.
I can make out what I think is either John and son, or Johnson maybe. And the word steel is visible.
The tangs are different to my other razors and also the shoulder.
They are a pair and came in a double 'coffin' box, which I can take a picture of too if needed.
Thanks for any help and info.

Could you provide us with a good picture of the remaining of the marks on their tangs? That would surely help!
Also, is there any etching on the blades?

Thanked: 0Thanks for the reply, I know there isn't much to go on.
Here are two close up pictures of the tangs, and unfortunately there is no etching.

"Johnson / Silver Steel" is the most I can guess out of it. It's not certain but it could be that. Now we have to find which Johnson is it, to date them.

Given the amount of sanding or light strikes we may never be able to date accuratly

They look nice (although I'm not a huge fan of acrylic scales on older blades, but YMMV), good to see you getting them up and running.
That is of course possible, although I still would put my bet on 'Johnson'. Many (older) sheffield stamps were applied by hand, and hence they are not uniform in their position on the tang.
