Default What experiences have people had with Feather razors?

As of now, I've been using a dovo shavette for a year or so. I bought it as an introduction to straight shaving and it's worked pretty well. Only cut myself (nicks) about five times so far

I want to move it up a bit, but not a proper one yet because of all the stropping and honing... and price. I've heard that feather razors are some of the best with disposable blades, and are the closest to the real thing.

I'm just not sure whether it would be better to get the RG or DX. Is the DX shave much better than the RG (as well as an average disposable blade and proper straight)?
And also, since the blade is pretty small, how does it, and the weight, compare to a real straight?

    Thanks

Personally I have the Feather SS and could not be happier. It's way better than a disposable that use DE blades, and they shave more like a straight. Smaller than a real straight, but you get used to that really quick.
I tend to use mine when travelling, but enjoy it at home now and then as well. The Feather blades are insanely sharp btw.

Ahh ok, thanks. I'm a bit confused though, because the razor you recommended is called "artist club", whilst the others I've been reading about have been either "artist club DX", or "artist club RG"

Is artist club an umbrella term, with yours being the original and DX/ RG being variations?

Because of your recommendation though, I'm most likely going to get a feather, just not sure which one yet though.

Yeah Artist Club is the series name. The SS is supposed to be the most forgiving of them.

I've made my choice then I also read somewhere that the SS feels closer to a real one than the RG, due to weight balance

The only (vanity) issue with the SS is that it doesn't have a teak handle like the DX and RG, and it's shaped... oddly

But still, I'd rather have my face than a sexier razor

The SS is probably the more forgiving one (although I like the other ones better) but I find the RG and DX models closer to a straight then the SS. The RG is the same as the DX btw it's just made out of brass where the DX is stainless steel and twice the price.

I might be the exception but I rather not have a wood handle on my razors, just make sure you dry it carefully after shaving. Enjoy your SS!
