All the TI's I have seen out of the box are close, but no cigar. A little work on the finishing stone may do it. Some pastes may be all that's needed. In other cases a small pyramid will be better.

My very limited experience is that they also finish up nicely with a pasted padle.

TI's are very close. As suzuki has said, they're often close enough that you can get there with a pasted paddle. If you've got a 1.0 micron diamond paddle then give it 10 laps and see if that does it. If it's close then give it 10 more. If that doesn't do it then you might want to consider going back to a hone.

What's the grit on the green paste? If it's the 0.5 micron chrome oxide, then it's probably not sufficient.

I find the 0.5 micron is a good finish actually. If the blade is close 20 or 30 laps should do the trick. Easy does it though. It's better to undercook the bird and put it back in the oven for a few minutes than to burn it.

Classic shaving offer a honing service (by Lynn Abrams), so did you get it honed before they sent it to you?

The Maestro Strop is very good for refreshing. You can try about 20 strokes on the green side and then go to the leather side. It may not be enough though as has been stated that some TI's are very close when new and some do need a minor honing. It still may require a light honing.

    Keep us posted.
