Just wondering.
I use mineral oil on my razors after every use, with a Q-Tip. I live in Florida, humid, never a problem in 2 years, come February.
What about a rust preventer like break free or Kroil? I live in New Orleans so humidity is definitely a problem.
I say no, but many have their own way . I'm 12 miles from the ocean, mine stay on the bathroom sink. Oiled & wrapped in a linen handkerchief. My stored razors only have mineral oil on them & stay in a cigar box. Every 6 months I check them, never a blemish. I use Break free on my weapons, I have never used Kroil, so I can't give you advice on them.
As long as you completely wipe dry and strop your razor, plus as long as the storage is right you shouldn't have to worry about rust, I use 12 razors all stored together in a air tight box with one of these and never had an issue.

Two words, Eucalyptus oil. Well, that's actually four words altogether, and now it's thirteen, fourteen including 'thirteen' but the general gist of the thing is Eucalyptus oil. I'm a great advocate of it. It's light, it's cheap, it works, it's anti-septic, it's natural...
I use Ballisotl and it works great. It is food safe too.
I guess it all depends on usage and storage as already implied here. I tend not to oil any of my razors and after shaving I wipe them properly dry with some kitchen paper. The scales hardly ever get wet anymore, the way I shave, so there's no fear of water hiding in the pins. If I do accidentally wet the scales I blow them dry afterwards with a blow-dryer. My razors are stored in my wardrobe with all my clothes. Any humidity will first have a huge buffer of clothes to get into, before it gets into my closed box with razors. I'm in this thing for over two years now and haven't had a single rust or blemish problem. Just my experience for what it's worth.
Mineral oil works great and you can get it anywhere.
dry well after use and store it in a cigar box with several silica gel bags.

Jeez Hirlau. How much can a Koala bear ? :p
I end by Palm Stropping with Vaseline. Just a little rubbed into your palm and you're set go.
One drop of Hoppes gun oil on a toilet tissue. Wipe the dry razor and "forget about it"
That's a good test run Carl. I only asked because I've seen people have dramas with non specific use oil in the past.
This is the thread that came to mind.
Just in case someone's considering experimenting. Don't try Soy oil. :w

I use Renaissance wax. No rust issues at all. When I store a razor, I use WD-40. Works well, removed easy and has a long history of keeping items rust free.
Used Balistol for years, it works well on any ferrous items and it is very light. One drop on each side, distributed with fingers and a light wipe with a small square of cloth used routinely for that purpose. I live a few hundred yards from salt water, so it only takes a minor oversight to have rust sprouting from anything not treated
+1 on the paste wax. I will wax after honing and have no problems with rust on the blade, but I do use oil on the pivot pin.
I also use mineral oil when I'm storing them, I keep them in a pocket in my shaving bag zipped closed under my bathroom sink in the vanity.. Haven't had any problems but what I think I'm gonna do is store them in a Rubbermaid container with a silica gel as soon as the collection becomes bigger..
Tip Im also gonna start to do is a a envelope sealer the type u can fill up with water that has a lil sponge on top filled with mineral oil will do the trick..
Call me a traditionalist, but I also use WD-40 and of the can is not handy, I have my trusty and very old metal can of 3 and 1 which works just fine, and his still half-full after many years of use I just like the metal can JMHO
