    Default 8/8 users or larger

For those who use the large straights -- 8/8 or larger, what makes using those razors better than a 6/8 (currently the largest straight I own)? What are the pros to using a 8/8 or larger in your opinion? I'm trying to determine if the pros outweigh the cost.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    1. more momentum on the plains
    2. rarely stall if sharp enough even w/ less than perfect technique
    3. just plain look badass
    4. some are more convenient to hold, esp if one has big hands, but not necessarily
    5. hold more foam on the blade
    6. they just shave, hone, and strop differently - some like them better

i use 8/8 once in a while... my top shaver is 8/8 but otherwise my best size seems to be 6/8

I have also found that anything smaller than a 6/8 is harder for me to use on my face in some spots. It has to do with how your face is shaped but for me the extra depth of a 6/8 or more seems easier to use in those spots. But your results may vary with the shape of your face.

Easier to hone and strop IMO, when you lay the razor down on the strop/hone the two points it rests on are slightly further apart giving it more stability.

Well that's how it feels to me anyway.

Well, I have to confess that it was the look of a large razor rather than what I thought it would shave like that made me buy them (7/8, 8/8 ) I personally don't think they shave better than a 5/8+ or hone/strop easier. A 1/4 hollow in a 6/8 feels better to me for weight and ease.

The best thing about the 6/8 through 8/8 is that the more guys like them the more reasonable price I can get on a 5/8.
