Ducks have ALWAYS been pricey, well at least since this forum was started, and for most of the time that at least I remember on the original Yahoo SRP forum. Guys were still talking about being able to find wonderedges for 30 bucks on ebay....but that must have been about the time they all started going through the roof (Lynn's video? :shrug: ) That said, I recently sold a Satinedge on the bay, and was shocked at how much it brought (almost the same number you mentioned above) because the last time I looked at 'Ducks, satinedges were 30 dollar razors, and DD Special No. 1's were 10 or 15... even then I would have rather kept the razor, as I know I'll likely never afford to replace it. They really ARE good razors.
All the talk of being patient, above....is true to a point, but vigilence is key. I don't think they are getting cheaper anytime soon. People used to think the same thing back on Yahoo...."I'll just wait until Wonderedges are 30 bux again"....still waiting, those guys....on the other hand, I've scored most of my 'ducks as parts of a "lot" in which it was thrown in and not mentioned with a group of other old razors...

I picked up all three of my dwarves at area antique stores. I just happened to be on "Sweep and Clear" missions and was in the right place at the right time. Correction, the nicest of the three came from Tilly's Antiques online but it was still a case of right place, right time. I still have yet to sign up on Ebay but I will one of these days and become yet another dork bidding up the prices to obscene heights. :nono: :rolleyes:

Not to diminish that, but my W&B swayback is every bit as good as my DD, in fact I actually prefer it, but that may have as much to do with the extra weight being about a 7/8 and half hollow as having that equally great Sheffield steel.

There's an awful lot of great razors out there. Dubl duck and Puma have the rep, but that seems to be something of a historical accident. Most of the other really great brands only get discussed in whispers, everybody seems to have learned a lesson from the dubl duck bubble.

And besides, if you really want the ultimate then the Feather is probably the way to go.

That's why I stay away from any brand that Lynn recommends -- they make great shavers but as soon as the word's out that they ahve Lynn's seal of approval, people are on'em like white on rice. Ofcourse, if I can get nice resale pieces from an uneducated seller, than I may make an exception or two :w

Michael - it seems many razors are going up. Especially meat choppers, and a bunch of brands with good reputation. I know of only 1 brand that has consistent great shavers and can be had for under 20 or so in good condition. And if I say the name I expect it'll go up (not that I'm comparing myself and the effect I can have on the market to um, some other people ;) )

As for the DD bubble - I hear WE sold for obscene prices (350 in so-so conditions) - now they can be had for less than half, so it's getting a bit better. I am waiting till they are $50 again and will stock up... just kidding :roflmao
