Default wish my pockets were deeper

Since I started coming to SRP and learning what I can the same name has always come up, Dubl Duck. Not to discredit the razor, I have never used one and have been hoping for the experience. But everytime I search ebay and they have them listed they are way out of my reach. Altima55 sold one 3 weeks ago for $175.00. And there are always a ton of bidders to go up against, it was easier for me to get my xbox360 than it is to try and grab a Duck.

I'm in the same boat, but I just dont want to invest big bucks into a "used" razor, not knowing what I'm really getting. Lately, even the so-so condition DD special 1's are fetching 70+ bucks. I'm anxious to see what this one http://http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayIS...MEWA:IT&ih=007is gonna fetch. I just saw a fairly nice looking goldedge go for $230.00 the other day.

230 for the Goldedge was crazy, and it was in bad condition. Lynn said it's probably new guys who don't know any better. If they continue to sell like this I'll sell mine and get another razor that shaves just as well for 2/10 of the proceeds (or less)

70 for so-so condition Special 1 is also too much.

I think some people have seen that some ducks (like the 8/8 Goldedge for over 400) are expensive and think they are getting great deals on the others...

    Cheers

There are all kinds of DDs coming up on Eboy all the time. You just have to be patient and you will be rewarded.

Agreed. I usually notice about two or three DD Goldedge's in good condition a week. No reason to go crazy and get into a bid war.

You guys are honestly NOT missing anything!

I've owned, used and sold all of the d.ducks, except the 'lifetime' (never owned that one). Yes, they all are very good shaver's. However, I have owned MUCH cheaper razors that have actually shaved, if not as good, better!

They definitely fit the 'cult razor' status. Do not feel like you are missing anything if you do not get to try one.

Learn how to hone a razor, and that's all you'll need. Limiting factors to a great shave are the quality of steel, the ability to hone, the ability to strop, and a great prep. Since d.ducks rolled in around the early 1900's the quality of steel in those razors can be found in many other brands from the same area, and more recent (and cheaper) makes.

Also, as has been mentioned, it's eBay...be patient, another one always comes along!

Exactly. I gave up attempting to grab a DD because I didn't want to get into a bid war. I also didn't think the shaving experience would be enough to justify the effort/money expended.

I have been biding on a few of the in the past week or so and I can't believe the prices. A new DD#1Special went earlier in the week for $104.47, over doubled in price in the last 15 seconds. I was in the lead with about 2 minutes left. Then the sh** hit the fan and the bids were popping us as fast as I could hit the refresh button. I am going to wait until I see one at a local auction or shop I think. I won't pay these kind of prices. Donald

I guess I was lucky with mine. I saw a DD Satinedge pop up on Ebay a while back and there were no bids on it, I emailed the seller and asked if he'd take $35 just on the offchance. I didn't expect him to even reply but he did, and said $40 and it was mine.

Needless to say I snapped it up, it had warped scales which needed replacing but the blade was virtually unused. It's a superb shaver, one of my best.

Just hang on and keep checking, eventually you'll see one at a good price.

Well as the official "Duke of Ducks" here I'll tell you that I have about 12 DDs in my collection and outside of my Puma's no other razor I have shaves with such consistant excellence as my DDs no matter the model. I have about 10 TIs and the DDs beat them.

I just got a DD today on Eboy for about $40 so as I said just be patient and you will find one at your price.
