Dovo razors, do any come from the factory shave ready?

Ok, so on a local website, there is a new vendor selling Dovo razors, not sure what model. just called "top of the line" in ad. It has a worked spine with gold wash, looks nice. I questioned whether it had been honed, and shave ready, since, to me, this seems to be the most common problem with alot of beginners not knowing what that means, and promptly giving up. The reply was "I've been talking to Dovo New Zealand agents this morning and they have informed me that these top of the line razors are shave ready to use from their German factory technicians boxed and sealed. They are the authority on their own brand of products." My question, is this correct?, The general consensus around here is that they aren't.

Thanks Glen. By chance, i have a razor from another member that you honed, it is how i judge my other razors. I have no intention of buying it, like my vintage razors too much, i just needed confirmation of what i have already learned from here before i question vendor further.

But, still the "Shave Test" that single well executed and planned out stroke from Sideburn line to Jawline is the determining factor, if that stroke shaves smooth and clean then the razor is "Shave Ready"... As you can see from that answer there can be different definitions of "Shave Ready" but that is the least it should do...

Test both razors one right after the other, and see the comparison on that single stroke ... You should have your answer

Well there is no convincing this guy, he maintains they come from the factory shave ready, and that he has many satisfied customers, although he only has one sale, and not for a razor. I offered to shave test one, but he is not having it. Just need to find out who the satisfied customers were, and pick up some cheap Dovo razors. :rofl2:

I have two new Dovo's and the short answer is no.The factory edge needs a bit more polish on it to be shave ready.The first I bought needed 10 laps on an 8k norton and 5 laps croOx on rough leather to smooth it out,the second the vendor did that small job for me.Both shave great now and I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I find that a bit odd, i picked up a NOS Kropp a while back, probably 60 years old, stropped it and shaved with it. I am a builder, so it is like me building a house and then not handing over the keys, looks great, but you can't use it.

Can I hijack this thread and turn it into a 'what shave ready means' thread? :)

I do think that's the general state of things these days: the company goes so far as to make it look sharp, but that doesn't mean it is. But the other day I saw a Dubl Duck package and it said it was guaranteed, and they'd take it back if you hadn't honed it, implying that in their opinion it was ready out of the box, and you should try it and decide if it was good, right out of the box. I guess times change.

I bought a new silver steel Boker last week. The vendor said it would be hard to sharpen, but I felt it was awfully close out of the box, sharpening it took literally five minutes, and I'm happier with it than anything else I own. Some apparently-undamaged Ebay specials have taken me a whole lot longer to get working.
