Thread: 7/8 TI Flying Eagle

Anyone else have one of these or a similar razor from the series?? Took me a few tries to get the edge and the threads about the carbonsong steel being a PITA to get dialed in were definitely helpful! Honed this using the 1k Chosera, Welsh Trio with slurry, Ozuku Mizu Asagi. After the shave (it was quite nice but I felt like I could get more out of it) i put it back on the Ozuku with the nagura progression. Shaved and still wasn't happy. Touched it up with my Nakayama Kiita/Asagi and WOW. I've shaved ATG 3 times in two days and after the third shave had no razor burn, no nicks or cuts. I've noticed that this point on the razor has come pretty close to my ear on the ATG pass going up my sideburn and I'm going to have to be very conscious of this for every shave.

The only thing I'm not absolutely loving about this thing is the weight of the ram horn scales. I don't find that the razor is balanced which makes honing and stropping more difficult than I'm used to. The ram horn does, imho, look incredible and have a great feel; just wish it was thinner.

I hear you about the whole unbalanced thing but to complain about a razor like that is like saying the pot of gold you have is nice but it's just so damn heavy! DAMN that is one beautiful blade. Heavy, maybe. But I adore those horn scales.

That's one fine looking razor you got there. That's also a nice looking brush. I have a TI with an identical shaped blade, but different scales and no etching. I guess I was fortunate that when I got the razor, it was friggin sharp. Actually a little too sharp. I was able to tone it down a little so it's more comfortable. Glad you were able to get it sharp. Here is a picture of mine. You can see the resemblance of the two blades.

Skippy, nice one you've got there too! I was lucky enough to trade for mine and both parties ended up happy. There's no way I could afford one of these new! It shaves just as well as my vintage #14 Eugenio Hoppe Frog King (same #14 as vintage fillies) that I bought for $23 on ebay! I'll be using this razor... every other shave; until I get sick of it.

The full Naniwa SS progression makes these newer TI's really sing,,, (pun intended)

oh man... i just found this refference to Eugenio hoppe razors, I agree with you, i have one of those #14 Eugenio hoppe, witht he frog king onthe handles.. it loos very much like a 14 fillies... it's extremelly sharp and it hones so easily!.. also the shaves are among the best I¿'ve tried in my noob time of using SRPs (shaaaarp as a red imp or more!).. blade is very flesible too.. i'm wondering if there's any connectio between this eugenio hopppe and the fillies cause it looks just the same! and mine coste $15.5 in ebay!
