I just ordered a 7 day set....can't wait !!!!!
Beautiful razors, both of you!
You're making me jealous! One day, I'll plan a trip to Perugia and I'll buy myself a Mastro Livi razor.
Time to start putting aside some money and brushing up on my Italian razor-speak.
Of course, I have no intention of making you jealous! I just like sharing my joy with you fellow gentlemen! :)
I sincerely wish you to buy a Mastro Livi razor and to come to Perugia. I will be more than happy to take you to the Mastro shop and to help you with your "Italian razor-speak". I just know Mastro Livi would be very happy to welcome you in his shop and to show you the making of your razor. And, believe me, it is a wonderful experience!
A very nice offer -- perhaps I'll take you up on that when the opportunity arises.
Let's be honest though, you're just looking for excuses to go back to the shop!
Well razorguy, this thread and reading about your experience has prompted me to contact Mastro Livi and design my custom razor for my 40th in September. I'm also making a trip to Perugia to visit the region and pick up my razor. I'd appreciate any tips for things to visit in the area.
This is absolutely wonderful! My city will be more than happy to welcome you here. As for tips, well, you certainly know you already planned to visit one of the best places, and I mean Mastro Livi shop.
Perugia is a very ancient city, here you can get an idea of many Italian historical eras, Perugia was in fact established by Etruscans around 1160 B.C. and every corner of the city can offer you amazing views of all the historical periods of Italy up to modern times. The ancient city is of course the most enchanting place and I am sure you will enjoy it.
Let me congratulate with you for having made such a decision and to celebrate your 40th birthday with the best gift ever: a Mastro Livi razor is something you will treasure forever. And, yes, I am proud of the fact you made such a decision after having read my comments about my experience which I certainly treasured in my heart. Seeing Mastro Livi at work is absolutely amazing!
In case I am in Perugia by the time of your visit, I will certainly be glad to meet a gentleman with a passion for straight razors as well as meeting Mastro Livi again.
Thank you for the information, sounds a truly wonderful place. I'm really looking forward to this trip. I'm looking to be in Perugia around the weekend of the 28th September, approx 23rd Sept to 1st Oct. If you're around it would be great to catch up for a coffee.
That sounds like a great plan and a very gracious offer which I'll definitely take you up on(I'll probably need some translation help as my Italian is non existent).
I'll have to pm you my design/specification. Mastro is being superb in the process so far (custom razor designing is new to me) and I'm also getting a loom strop and brush with the same wood to match the scales.
P.S I will not be responsible for enabling your Mastro razor addiction and if you happen to purchase any more razors whilst we're there, I'll be looking the other way :)
It will be a pleasure to help you with Italian. No problem. :)
I received your PM and I will reply by sending you a regular mail. I too am considering buying a Mastro Livi loom strop: they simply look superb!
Unfortunately, I have been already and severely affected by this addiction and I am afraid I will buy another Mastro Livi soon. I guess very soon. And in case I will do that while we are at Mastro Livi shop, please don't look the other way: it would be nice to have at least some kind of support from someone who understands the addiction! :D
We'll all know it's bad when you've sold your house to buy another razor and you're sleeping rough outside his shop.
Il Barbone Sbarbato
If you don't mind me asking......what is that bulbous orange tool....i have seen them in the toiletries isle..I think...what is its purpose in shaving ?? :)
It is Floïd's spray pump. It is a a luxurious gadget every Floïd lover cannot miss! :)
It truly makes a difference at the end of shaving and you are about to use this wonderful after shave: a pleasing cloud of vaporized Floïd will refresh your skin like no other. It is a must for every Floïd user! :)
If you've been shaving with this while travelling, how've you been storing / packing the razor? Obviously not having a folding handle means the blade's always exposed; it's basically why I never take my kamisori anywhere, though if you have a solution to that...?
I simply store it in its box. The one in which Mastro Livi sells his razors. You can see the picture of the box here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ml#post1173833
Thanks for sharing that video.
You are welcome! I hope you enjoyed the video. :)
Ottimo video, è buono a vedere come i suoi bei rasoi sono creato e io sono contento anche perché, mentre non ho il vocabolario tecnico, capisco ancora l'idea generalmente di che cosa dica il Mastro.
Obviously there are subtitles, but still...
I also like the way that he doesn't sign the blade until after he's test-shaved, just to illustrate that he won't put his name to it unless it's perfect.
Dear PigHog, I am glad you appreciated the video and also commented it in Italian. Very good! Molto bene! :)
Congratulations for your Italian! I hope you however appreciated my subtitles! :)
As for the Mastro signing his razors only in case the razor meets all of his quality standards, I can witness this to be absolutely true.
I must say he is very strict and exacting in every phase of production, paying a huge deal of attention on every single and tiny detail before passing to the next phase.
I can confirm Mastro discards any blade or razor not meeting his standards at any phase of the making. He has shown me a box with many blades, some of them also completed, that were in his opinion bad or having faults. To me, most of them were just wonderful, but at his experienced eyes they had faults in some aspects. To my wonder, as I could not see the reason why most of those blades were discarded, he explained to me the reason why and, I must say, most of the times were just minor defects and I am sure most of us here would have been elated to have that blade anyway! (Including me, of course! :) )
He said he does not care: a fault is a fault anyway and he prefers to start everything over from the beginning instead of "cheating" on his client.
To me, it has been a wonderful day and the Mastro, as usual, has been very patient in explaining - I would better say, teaching - every aspect of the making. Simply remarkable!
Rinnovo i complimenti già fatti in SOTD!!
... translate ...
As said in the SOTD section, very compliments!!
Great video, thank you for posting it!
...just one thing: you said the video was in italian but when I watch it, it has no audio...only music the last 40 seconds when the credits start.
Thanks for your comment and appreciation for my video. As for the problem you mentioned about music playing during credits, I tried to play the video and everything seems to be fine, with full audio and music tracks in the places where they are supposed to be. Can you please try playing the video again and let me know whether everything is fine? Thank you.
Yesterday, I went to Mastro Livi's shop and, besides learning an incredible amount of things about steel, straight razors, honing, stropping and more, I also added a new Mastro Livi item to my shave den. After having bought two razors - and probably more are about to come - I finally took home another fine item personally made by Mastro Livi: his famous loom strop. I decided to buy the small one, because I think it perfectly fits in my bag and I can carry it with me while I am traveling.
This strop is simply wonderful, not only because it comes with an elegant wood box and a crayon of Mastro Livi's chromium oxide paste, but for the beauty of the object itself, another masterpiece of Mastro's craftsmanship and art. Stropping on this loom strop, well, it is simply amazing for the feedback you get at each pass.
I am posting some pictures and I hope you gentlemen will enjoy it as much as I did.

Simply bellisimo!! Thanks for sharing. Beautiful works of art that are also functional.
I did watch the video. It was great, thanks for posting that! Oh yes, I saw the other razors posted also. The one by Razorthin as well as your Kamisori. Beautiful pieces, all of them. Thanks for sharing!
Got my Floid a couple weeks ago......great stuff...my youngest son is now using it too !!!
Floïd is my favorite after shave since the beginning I got into straight razor, a little more than ten years ago. I love both of the Italian production (The Genuine "Orange" and "Blue") and I find them to be absolutely wonderful! It is not always easy to find it (some time ago it was said they quit production and was not easy to find it in shops, blue in particular) and also now not all of the shops sell it.
Fortunately we have internet and we can buy it wherever it is available at!
As we are in a thread in which we are talking about "My Mastro Livi" (therefore talking here about Floïd would be considered as off topic by moderators ;) ) I can say Mastro Livi too uses Floïd and it has been quite a surprise for me to know about it. Mastro likes Floïd "Blue" as well as p.160 shaving cream: well, they both are my favorite ones, too! :)
As for your son using Floïd, I think this is absolutely great: it is always good to get used to good stuff when you are young. You will certainly grow up better! :tu
And this makes me think whether your son is using a straight razor or not, maybe a Mastro Livi, in order to follow the "get used to good stuff" rule? :)
He has a DE, brush and likes the cella soap...not crazy about the straights yet..Clubman is his other favorite.
I really enjoyed watching your videos, razorguy.
