Thread: Help me Identify my "Thiers Issard"

I recently received this razor in a box of old stuff from my uncle. I had heard of the brand and knew it was a quality razor. After researching other straight blade TI's I could not seem to identify mine. It came with a leather case that has "Thiers Issard" stamped into it. The blade reads "Our unrivaled Hollow Ground Fully Warranted." And there is a picture of a gold buffalo inbetween the words 'Hollow' and 'Ground' I'll attach photos and would appreciate any info on the razor including; what the name of it it, if its rare, what the handle might be made of, and approx how much it is worth. Thanks!

Sorry but we don't do valuations. Also you pictures are not clear enough to tell very much. If its a TI it should say so on the neck of the razor. Just from what I can see it might be a TI but I can't tell for sure. I don't think it's any rare model.

If it s a TI it will be stamped as such on the tang, the portion that is forward of the scales (handles) and behind the cutting edge. One way or another, it looks like a quality vintage razor and if it were honed to shave ready would be a good one.

Thanks for the quick responses. I checked the tang and it says Thiers-Issard Made in France with a picture of a crown above it. So im pretty sure it is an IT, I was particularly curious as to what the buffalo on the blade might mean as far as the model. It seems to be in great condition with no damage and a very sharp blade. I'll be sure to put up better pictures tonight. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

TI furnished different etchings on their blades for different vendors. Same model razor but a different etching depending on which vendor.

So I couldn't get my hands on a better camera, but I found the original box that it came in. If anyone could tell me where I could get it appraised I would appreciate it. Thanks.

It means absolutely nothing. TI's placement of the different goldwash picture has nothing to do with model, it's just marketing.
You can read off the model from the sticker on the cardboard box though. It's not hard to find what a brand new one of these costs, they still sell them - it's the lowest model. Of course, yours has nothing to do with 'brand new', so you'll have to find the appraisal someplace else.

Unfortunately, I don't think you have the experience to determine if there is damage and to assess the sharpness of the blade. A razor in proper condition has an edge free of any irregularities on a micron level.

Thanks for all the help. I wasn't planning on selling it because I let me uncle know what I learned about it. He seems pretty interested in straight blade razors and wants to learn how to use them including this one. Thanks again for all the help, I'll be sure to pass it along.
