Thread: The Eezox Experiment

I am a long time sport shooter, and Eezox is BY FAR the CLP in terms of rust prevention (it's also a great lube and cleaner. I treat all my weapons with it, then occasionally lightly lube wear areas with Mil-Comm Grease or Oil, depending on the gun/season).

OK back on track. I noticed that a little corrosion set in on a razor after just a three day nap even though I always oil it with the Vintage Blades Oil when I'm done completely drying and stropping. So, I'm giving the Eezox a shot. With a Q-tip, just a single drop immediately removed the light corrosion that recently popped up.

***BTW, this type of rust prevention is over-the-top for most people. I live on the ocean without AC. I don't store my razors in a bathroom, but still, the entire house is filled with humid, salty air from May to early October.***

It definitely has face-unfriendly ingredients, but either way, I rinse off the blade with alcohol before each shave, so I should be fine (91% isopropyl alcohol is also used to completely degrease firearms). I will report back with my findings in a few days.

There are a lot of guys who prefer to use lubricant made for guns on their straight razors and many report great outcomes! Hopefully your solution will solve your problem for you.

I forgot to mention that I have used Break-free CLP on razors, but found it more difficult to wipe off for some reason and didn't want it to taint my strop leather at all (especially when using a strop from Tony Miller!)

Eezox is great because it's a "dry lube" so it should wipe off easily instead of gunking up like some others.

I would be very interested in hearing how that works out...researched it a bit and it says its suppose to prevent rust. I would assume if it works on your firearms it should work on your razors.

Well it's been a day, so I figured I'd give an update...

The blade looks good after being left out in my salty, humid, 90 degree house for 24 hours. The Eezox did not harm any of the etching on the blade (something I was afraid of since the cleaning solvents in the CLP are extremely powerful), and it looks shiny-new. In two more days, I'm gonna give it a quick alcohol rinse and shave. If lingering chemicals don't scorch my face, I'm definitely going to drop my current oil for the Eezox (it only takes a single drop on a Q-tip).

Also, I emailed Eezox, and they reccommend using on blades as well. I asked about removal, and he said Eezox wipes away easily with a little isopropyl alcohol. The stars are aligning, now I just need my final confirmation when I shave.

3 pass BBS today with zero irritation. Unless I wake up with an arm growing out of my face tomorrow, my blades are getting the Eezox from now on.

I personally use Ballistol. Used on almost 'all' surfaces a soldier might have(:-).

I started reading this post but just can't get past the fact that you live on the ocean - and use a straight. The two don't seem to go hand in hand.
