answer to your question is yes you can use thuringin,escher or nakayama or any higher grit hone get better and smoother edge. you don't have to go to 30k shapton.
that stones i know and i am sure...

if you don't have lower grit hones then after coticule you can use pastes chro2 etc in paddle strop to get better edge.

if you have dmt 8000 3micron use before coticule.
if you have norton 8k you can use coticule after norton.

To dig the ground with spoon to make a grave will take some time. you will need to use shovel instead of spoon.You know what i mean.
Right tools won't hurt .
