It is a smaller plate with yellow gold composite material inbetween. I never tried flattening stones with it and don't think it would be too good for that. I only use it for deglazing 10'' wheel.

Better than the Atoma is a pretty tall order, but for that price it would be good to try and you could always use it for something. If you get it I will be looking for a review. I bought a cheap one...
