I should have added that I have put about 6 coats...
I should have added that I have put about 6 coats of oil on it with steel wool buffing after each was dry (over the course of a few days)

Forstners just leave a flat hole instead of a cone shaped hole.. I used a 1" bit... for a 26mm this bit would work well too.:tu

I actually used a forstner drill bit for the knot...
I actually used a forstner drill bit for the knot hole... sorry if I was unclear... I carved the shape of the brush with rasps and sandpaper after drilling the knot hole.
