What you say here is the same thing I've been doing. If the slurry is too thick and slimey its fun but it pushes the edge duller imo. I tend to spray with water after I rub the slurry stone...

I own a darkblue Escher and being that it is slower than the Y/G ones I usually do 100strokes with slurry....You can't overhone on an Escher, just make sure your strokes are perfect.
