I personally use a dollarama mug. Its more of a bowl really. I use cream, though, so the fit is not a problem.
Used to put a cake of williams soap there, too, the fit was quite loose but still...

btw, speaking of cheap shaving mugs, check out Dollarama.
They have top-notch mugs for ...uhm.. yeah, a dollar. ;)
