I now managed to squeeze the lower half of the spine and forced it back on (not in a harmful way).

sigh.. It definitely sounds easier than it was. Now the back is almost flat and hardly grips the blade at all( went step by step in the vice, then checking the "flatness"). I tried to put the half...

Even if the come-off spine is a tad u-shaped? Also it does wobble a tiny bit wich may cause some problems when honing. maybe som glue to hold it in place? :S
