    1k to 5k is fine, it takes a few more strokes...

    1k to 5k is fine, it takes a few more strokes compared to 3-5k jump.

    I use 3/5/8k before my 10k SS, IMO a jump from 3k...

    I use 3/5/8k before my 10k SS, IMO a jump from 3k to 10k may be a bit of a stretch, while 5k to 10k jump is definitely going to work well.
    My vote is for 5k.
