yes your Jnat with no slurry, or dry slurry. IMO no, shiny does not necessarily mean sharper or smoother. truth is in the eye of the beholder

Did you have the same experience from the very first time you used the hone, or initially it was better finisher?

If you got the stone from one of the 3 reputable sources I have seen mentioned on this forum, then the stone should be as good as it gets.
Do you get the same edge quality if you go to your Nakayama...
