This post just cleared up some of the mystery for me. I've been picking up stones at sales and wondering how I'd go about checking them. Now I know. Thanks.

I'm not sure how to describe the flakes. They are shiny like a darker crystal and seem to be fairly evenly distributed throughout. I'll see If I can get my camera to take a better picture.

You are the second person to tell me that. I'll have to do some reading. Is this stone usable for razors? A bevel setter?

From other pictures it looks like maybe an Arkansas stone of some type but I was wondering if I could get a confirmation. The stone is very smooth and has some shiny flakes throughout.
