Yes, one way or another I need to test. I'm not nearly as sure that the scales are not horn now.

Interesting, from the picture I would not have thought those scales were horn. They also look quite similar to the scales on my Ramon razor.

Up to this point, I've been sure they are not horn. They appear to be some sort of plastic, due to the texture, and due to the lack of imperfections and blemishes, but as I said earlier, I can't get...

The appearance of the dark patina is I think more down to the photo. This razor is very shiny, and is stable. I have never had to polish it, and the finish is not changing at all.

Good point. Mine are showing none of that. The wedge is perfectly flush with the scales around the outside. Maybe the pendulum is swinging back towards these being replacement scales.

That looks like exactly what has happened here, the wedge looks to have been filed down on an angle.

These scales are not horn or hard rubber. They seem to be celluloid, but I can't get any camphor smell (or any smell, which also precludes galalith) from them by holding under hot water and rubbing...

Hmmm... would that explain the asymmetrical shape of the wedge, longer at the bottom than the top?
