You should try the 1 & 2K then...you will be hooked and Shapton GS stones will have your honing soul, cause then you will need the 4,8,16K!

My opinion is to learn to hone on synthetics, then naturals as every stone is different in the natural world. Every norton is pretty much the same, your 220/1000 would be the same stone as mine here...
