Why write it as ee in the first place? To explain the pronunciation of pi.... we write it as pee but pronounce it as pi....? (both instances of pi have a soft i)

Since Pinaud is a last name, perhaps we should dig up Ed and ask him how he pronounced it. ;)

I don't think anyone claimed that pronouncing it as the French do is stupid or presumptuous.
