It depends, the opening will wick in water, but it will also wick in oil. If it were taken care of and oiled on occasion It would last forever. I do not see it as a function issue more of a cosmetic...

I wish, I was not even thinking about the one on the tail.

The blade on this one is a 7/8s it is a 100 layer 15n20 & 1095. The scales are whale bone.

There is a welding flaw in the blade from where I did not get a perfect weld when I was folding the blade...
