Modine has done a good deal of fairly rigorous testing and analysis of barber hones. He re-hydrates after lapping. I wish I could report that re-hydrating slowed down or moderated the cutting ability...

Yep I've had some come back pretty nice just from a good progressive lapping such as you suggest. But after I brought a couple back from the dead with vaseline I started doing it on every barber hone...

I think the OP makes it clear he has already lapped the Apart. So I assume there are no high spots to remove. It still has a chalky appearance. Further lapping with a DMT or sandpaper or an arky...

It is just treating them with petroleum jelly. Depending on what kind of shape they are in they might absorb several applications over a couple of days. After a few days wipe off the excess and buff...

I have an Apart hone and it is a pretty fine...
I have an Apart hone and it is a pretty fine barber hone. In the picture yours appears to be kind of white. Is there something on it? if not and it is kind of chalky on the surface it might need...
