i'm quite sure you could use it for shaving though.. why not just grate down your favourite soap and press it into the top portion? it may not actually warm the soap any, but atleast you can soak...

if i'm not mistaken.. that cup was not designed for shaving.. it's original purpose was to drink hot tea.. the spot on top is to set your teabag..
