Why didn't they just use another leather surface for pastes then? There were many "sharpen/finish" dual leather strops way back when with at least one side of them pasted so I still think the linen...

Actually one of my first products was a "tri-strop". I used an Illinois "linen", an 827 leather and a 127 leather all tied together on a single hanger.
The Artisan version is already being worked on...
