Good eye, the krackled "clear" material of the scales is like a blow torch to the steel. Clear celluloid is the worst offender for cell rot.

I will suggest that the whole strop could be ! Short but sweet pasted on one leather strap finish on the other. A simple favored strop of mine. But on the 'bay who knows!
