The third stone is a Washita. I have shaved off one before, you can get a serviceable edge but it's not as comfortable as it could be.

I like the 2" wide stones the best. They just fit...

Touched up an old Sheffield on a Dans black last...
Touched up an old Sheffield on a Dans black last night. About 200 circles and 100 x strokes. Turned out real nice.

At one point I had a washita that gave a serviceable edge. Nothing like a true finisher but I could see one being used for razors in the old days. Did a diluticot and it worked well

Have you done anything to the stone? Most folks like to dress them up on wet/dry sandpaper up to 2K or so then take a cleaver or chisel to them to shine them up a bit.

Quite frankly, I thought this thread would have been over a long time ago. I have enjoyed it immensely.

Fantastic looking stones, congrats. I used a dremel with a sanding wheel to knock the edges down. A belt sander would work great I think. -

I understand the black and trans have the same...
I understand the black and trans have the same 2.5+ density but the feel and feedback of the two seem different to me. Could be placebo affect? Guess it could be.

It also has to do where the stones are sourced. Dans say the black is the finest and Naturals say they translucent is the finest.
My black from Dans is real close to the trans from Natural....
