my progression on the arks depends if the razor is a half hollow or a wedge i'll use this progression indian fine oil stone to set the bevel then washita ,soft , hard ,trans/black have you preped...

the first two stone's are backwards in your progression washita soft hard trans/black. washita is the coarsest stone in an ark progression unless its a lily white washita.

never heard that before i know that dans whetstones grades their stones like this soft, hard ,true hard trans/black

what ark progression are you using soft hard trans/black ?

when i use my translucent or black ark i'm coming off my sgs 16k and finishing on trans or black. the ark are super slow so in order to cut the laps down to around 125-200 i go the synthetic route....

i do have a few ark's and the translucent and black are great but since your new i would suggest you go with a norton 4/8k and once you can get a great shave off of the 8k then step up to the ark's
