Well I hope it's good honing material....I had posted a while back in this thread a piece of Peach bottom slate shingle I had lapped. I never followed through to see what it could do. it kept flaking...

I was over that way picked up a few pieces over the summer. Just haven't figured out how I'm going to cut them. Maybe if it's good they'll open the quarry again LOL, The property is posted...

Touched up a razor that needed a little attention on the Peach Bottom Slate. The shave went better than in it's previous state, so it looks promising.

I guess the thickness of material would play a role in ease of use. I figure maybe if you can make one cut a chisel and hammer...

What's the list of qualities these rocks need to meet? Or are you looking for just finishers.

Acquired these rocks this morning from Maryland. Top pic shows it split open the other is how it's normally found or identified. I was told it's Black Granite
Also I was shown a piece of Wonderstone...

I haven't sourced any rock, but this is what I'm surrounded by at work. I'm finally off from work for a little and would like to see if I can find some Peach bottom slate apparently it was the bees...

Just found out today we have what's called Peach Bottom slate around here. I have my brother helping me locate it, he works GIS. Now to find pictures of what it looks like.....probably slate ha ha

Really getting upset about this.... I don't want to have to drag my 4 year old out to go rock hunting. I mean do I really want my kids childhood memories, of his Dad taking him "Rock Hunting" ...

Found info that says it's composed of silica, calcite, or iron oxide. I know nothing about rocks but this...
