Great work man,looks like you came down about 5mm.Have used clear Silicone in the past for temp knot setting.
Works well.Only PITA is getting all that stuff out so The Epoxy will set properly.

I think the Orig intent was to save the Knot and handle:)

Removing Knots is a destructive job,pretty hard to save both the handle and the knot IME.
