Thats the very tip section, The last 10in.or so of the tusk and a great shot of the nerve canal.
Tips always command top $ as the lines become more intense.

Correct,The center sections have no lines,most is sold for scrap,Is still ivory but rather bland.

The sheregar Lines are where the striations come from,toward the center of the tusk they disapear.

Actually the intense patterns are from the outermost section of the tusk,The lines only go about 1/2 deep,after that the are gone.

Agreed,as TBS said above,once you see and feel the real deal you will never mistake cell from Ivory.

Very nice but not the best pics to show the best grain,I supplied Tim Zowada with some exhibition grade Ivory for a friends blade recently.

Sorry,But The schreger lines in real ivory mean everything.

Hard to tell,The best way to see the grain in a pic is to shoot in direct sunshine at an oblique angle.

Is all in knowing what the grain looks like,best test for Ivory is a U.V. lgt parts of it will flash purple colors.

The pores or holes in bone are called Halversian canals,Bone has its own blood supply unlike Ivory.
