Thanks for the tip on the hammer...will have to go to harbor freight and pick one up. One thing I have done to my 4 oz ball hammer is take off the handel.
I can control the position so much easier....

I already tried that with a concave punch and is more likely to scratch the washer or scale. If you just walk the head around the outside of the pin you can make them domed (or convex) or use it...
