I got a chance to use that hammer this weekend at a blacksmithing workshop. Awesome power. No welding, just drawing out reins, making drifts, etc. Sure saves the arm!

To be honest, I will echo earlier advice: spend the time and money on an anvil and hammer rather than fuss with this mess.

I bought stainless bolts and nyloc nuts for the top die. I'll have to use thread lock and a lock washer in the bottom (the anvil is drilled and tapped to hold down the die.

Well, among other things, the integral valve bolts were coming loose, so who knows what was going on inside. I'll have to secure them with locktite.

Holy smokes, it pays to read and re-read. By the look of that video, the two-switch design does what I was talking about-- venting the 'off' side of the pilot circuit. I may go pick up a second...

What I can't figure out is why t sometimes hisses air out the exhaust continuously but doesn't move, and other times doesn't vent any air at all. It's like the control valve gets equal pressure on...

Hmmm. Used course thread.

I could weld on that plate and then weld the die to another plate and bolt them together. Then I would have the satisfaction of welding the snot out of the main die...

Maybe 1/2" of thread. Now that they are tapped I don't want to drill further, but I could.

I had to hand-drill the holes because my drill press is too small.

Why not weld the hell out of it?

I'm not sure I like this last part. I have threaded holes into the hammer head but they aren't very deep, so I am thinking of welding on the top die as well as bolting them on.

I wish I had more...
